The default timeout of solarium of 5s seems to be too aggressive on travis and causes random test failures. Set it to the PHP default of 13s.

* Escape the phrases in a range query.

In order to prevent query injection, the helper methods should escape
the phrases.  Otherwise you could end up with something like
rangeQuery('1', '2] someOtherField:[* TO *') and leak information, etc.

A new "3.x" branch was introduced to still maintain solarium 3.x (previously in master) with minimal bugfixes and security updates for some time, especially for people using older PHP or Solr versions.
